Hello! I’m Saffron
BSc International Wildlife Biology
Hello, I am Saffron Rosier. I am in my final year at the University of South Wales studying BSc International Wildlife Biology. I am currently undertaken a research dissertation project where I am exploring the genomic data available on the giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis). This is allowing me to explore my interest and fascination of the species. Initially I was supposed to be doing a field-based project, recovering samples from wild animals in South Africa, however, with the covid-19 scenario this now turned to a computer-based project, where I develop analytical methods for recovering full mitochondrial genomes from large NGS datasets. From there, genetic markers can be developed which, potentially, could be tested in the lab and provide further development of studies in the field, ultimately, improving the baseline knowledge for better conservation planning. I hope to go on, to work in the ecology and conservation field.
