Hello! I’m Fleurtje Coppen
BSc Student
Hello, my name is Fleur Coppen and I am studying International Wildlife Biology at the University of South Wales. I grew up in the Netherlands, but came to the UK for my studies. My main interests lie within wildlife biology, such as ecology, evolution and genetics. My course has allowed me to develop several field and lab skills, such as camera trapping, surveying, small mammal trapping and PCR techniques. Currently, I am working on my final research project, exploring the genome of the African pouched mouse (Saccostomus campestris). This includes full mitochondrial and nuclear DNA assembly, a phylogenetic analysis and developing genetic markers. The project allows me to dive deeper into genetic techniques and learn new skills along the way. I harbour a growing interest in evolutionary biology with a focus on genetics and gene expression and hope to further my studies in these fields.
